New Web site Helps Seniors Make Ends Meet

AARP recently released findings for a new economic survey.  The survey found that Americans remain concerned about their ability to pay health care bills, and many expect to delay retirement and work longer due to investment losses, and that elected officials in Washington should take a prominent role in addressing these important issues.

AARP and the AARP Foundation have created the “Real Relief” Web site that offers a variety of information to seniors to help them make ends meet during these difficult economic times.  This Web site is helpful to AARP members who may be concerned about their investments; who need to cut back on expenses; who are worried about retirement or who have lost their job.

Some of the things offered on this site include:

Benefits QuickLINK:  Find out if your family qualifies for public benefits programs that help cover the costs of food, utilities, health care, and medicine through an easy screening tool.

Public Benefits:  Learn more about Medicare, Social Security and state-specific programs for older adults with limited incomes on this Web site.

Money Management:  The site offers a variety of basic financial resources that can help seniors with their budgeting, credit and debt management.

AARP Tax-Aide:  Seniors can receive free, face-to-face tax assistance and preparation at more than 6,600 sites nationwide from late January or early February through April 15.

Reverse Mortgage Education Project:  Homeowners age 62 and older can access free online tools and print materials as well as learn about reverse mortgages and other, less costly alternatives to help make ends meet.

This Web site also directs workers to resources that will help them obtain and maintain the skills employers will be seeking.

In this time of economic crisis, AARP wants to help members find real relief.  If you have questions about the new “Real Relief” Web site or any other issue that is important to seniors, please call 1-888-OUR-AARP.
