Miriam Alvarez from Whitinsville is AARP's 39-millionth member.

Alvarez, 52, joined AARP to take advantage of the many benefits, and also got involved in the Divided We Fail initiative, by signing the DWF pledge at Life@50+ AARP's National Event & Expo in September. Living with several chronic health conditions, Alvarez worries, that she, like many others, may have to choose between paying for prescriptions and buying food. A mother and grandmother, Alvarez is also concerned about her family and their future financial security.

We have more members in Massachusetts than ever—850,000 and growing. We've heard from Miriam Alvarez, and now we want to hear from you—how does being an AARP member affect your life? Are you concerned about issues affecting all Americans like health care and financial security? Are you involved in your local chapter? Are you an active volunteer? Are you in it for the discounts—or the products and services?

Whether you read the magazine or state newsletter, or are a volunteer, we'd love to find out more about you. Tell us why you are a card carrying member of AARP nation.
