The AARP Massachusetts Executive Council provides strategic direction for AARP at the state level.  Its members include the State Director, Deborah Banda, and seven volunteers, led by the State President, Charles Desmond.  Each member brings uniquely valuable skills and experience to AARP. 

Charles Desmond has been State President since January 2006.  Desmond is currently Executive Vice President of the Trefler Foundation, a local philanthropic organization dedicated to urban education reform.   Prior to joining Trefler, Desmond had a lengthy and distinguished career at the University of Massachusetts - Boston, holding a broad range of administrative and executive level positions, including Associate Chancellor for School/Community Collaboration  and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.  A former Fulbright Fellow, Desmond also served in the U.S. Army, receiving both a Silver Star and a Bronze Star for service in Vietnam.

Timothy Anderson is the president and founder of World Computer Exchange, a volunteer driven organization that has supplied more than 20,000 used computers to 2,000 schools in 32 developing countries.  Anderson also founded the South Shore Charter School, the first K-12 charter school in Massachusetts.  An active volunteer throughout his professional career, Anderson most recently served on the Board of Directors of Very Special Arts of Massachusetts.
 
Joseph Feaster is a practicing attorney who has served in a variety of appointed municipal and state positions for the City of Boston and Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  Feaster also currently serves as Vice Chair of the Neighborhood Health Plan Board of Directors, as well as on the Board of Directors of the National Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights.  In addition, Feaster is the former president of the NAACP Boston Branch and former board member of the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers.
 
Linda Fitzgerald most recently managed education and outreach for senior markets at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.  She also worked at the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs, as the program and training coordinator for the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program.  In addition, Fitzgerald has worked in the faith community and in private sector nursing care.   She is a current advocacy volunteer with the AARP Grasstops program.
 
Madhav Kacker has been a resident of Massachusetts since 1983, when he joined Suffolk University faculty as an Associate Professor of Marketing.  Kacker retired in 1999, and has spent much of his retirement volunteering with Hessco Elder Services, the Area Agency on Aging for South Norfolk County.  He currently serves there as an advisory council member, with an active role in elder housing issues.  A longtime AARP member, Kacker volunteered in 2007 for Life@50+, AARP’s National Event & Expo.
 
Louise Myers is a longtime AARP volunteer having served in many capacities, most recently as co-lead of the state office team for the 2007 Life@50+ | AARP’s National Event & Expo, in Boston.   Myers currently provides valuable outreach to diverse organizations and communities, and represents AARP Massachusetts on the Multicultural Coalition on Aging.  She is also on the board of Minuteman Home Care, Chelmsford Council on Aging, and National Caucus on Black Aging.  Myers retired from the Social Security Administration after 32 years of service.

Claire Redmond currently represents AARP on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Service Alliance.  Redmond holds a doctorate in English from the University of Rhode Island.  A longtime AARP volunteer, she has served AARP in a number of capacities on issues including women’s financial security and civic engagement. Prior to her retirement, Redmond taught at the college level for sixteen years and at the United States General Accounting Office for eight years.
