With the death of Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA) this year, Bay State residents lost not only a towering presence in the Senate, but a staunch ally at home. As we head into the special election scheduled for the U.S. Senate seat that Kennedy held, the stakes are higher than ever for Massachusetts seniors and their families.
AARP Massachusetts will conduct a major voter education campaign around the U.S. Senate Special Election.
Centered on key issues including health care affordability, Social Security and long-term care, the non-partisan campaign will include:
• voter guides
• candidate events
• get-out-the-vote activities
In addition, volunteers throughout Massachusetts will “bird-dog” the candidates by attending a variety of events and activities to find out where they stand on the key issues.
Key Dates
The primary is scheduled for Dec. 8, 2009.The general election is slated for Jan. 19, 2010.
