Do you have questions about AARP programs and services? One call does it all. AARP's Louisiana Information Center has reopened in New Orleans. Located on Canal Street, the new facility has meeting space for AARP programs such as Driver Safety and Tax Aide, in addition to a cadre of volunteers ready to serve the entire state.

"This is a wonderful development for AARP's Louisiana members," Myrtle Winbush, AARP Information Center Coordinator, says. "The previous Information Center was only open for four months before being destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. It was a valuable resource for connecting with our members and we are delighted to be able to provide this service again."

In a city still struggling, the AARP Information Center is not only a resource for members but also a sign of hope that New Orleans will recover.

"After the storm, we had a decision to make: Do we reopen the Center in New Orleans, or do we relocate to another part of the state? We felt it was important to demonstrate our commitment to the recovery of this great city by finding the perfect location and getting back to business," Nancy McPherson, AARP State Director says.

The Information Center is AARP's hub in New Orleans and the best place for Louisiana residents to receive publications, specifics on volunteer opportunities and updates on AARP initiatives in Louisiana.

"From advocating for fair utility rates to Healthcare Reform, AARP Louisiana is making a difference and we need you to be involved in order to build on this foundation. We have just completed a successful legislative session where we made a great deal of progress on issues important to you. With statewide elections right around the corner, I hope everyone will spread the word and call the Information Center to learn more about how you can be a part of important social change in our state." Earl White, AARP State President, says.

To reach the Information Center call (504)826-1973. The Center's operating hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you call any other time, leave a message including your name and phone number and one of the volunteers will return your call. The facility is also available for meetings and events for AARP members and volunteers.
