Volunteering with the AARP Tax-Aide Program is a wonderful way to make a huge contribution to your community and gain a sense of personal enrichment. You will help local low-to-moderate income taxpayers (with special attention to persons over 60) claim their refunds and tax credits.
What do Tax-Aide volunteers do?
- Tax-Aide Counselors prepare and review returns based on taxpayers’ documentation;
- Provide tax filing help and/or answers to tax questions;
- Use their talents and skills to help over 39,000 Kansas residents understand how tax law may benefit them.
As a Tax-Aide volunteer, you will:
- Receive free training in order to prepare you to be certified by the IRS as a volunteer Tax-Aide counselor;
- Gain experience, confidence and knowledge in state and federal tax systems;
- Work one-on-one with low to moderate income taxpayers in need of assistance.
How to become a Tax-Aide volunteer:
- Complete a week-long training, orientation and computer session for all new volunteers;
- Pass IRS test modules (approx. 40 hours for new volunteers)
- Spend 4-8 hours a week for 10 weeks during tax season working at a Tax-Aide site.
Please note: Tax-Aide is also recruiting for volunteers with administrative skills, computer and web-based design skills, and advertising and media experience.
