South Bend Hosts May 28 Opinion Leader Forum

Americans are accustomed to and well-served by gleaming hospitals, advanced medical technologies, and quality care from well-trained and caring physicians, nurses, and other providers.
But American health care is dogged by other realities, too.
Health care costs are skyrocketing, especially for prescription drugs.
Too many people lack insurance, and those who have insurance are too familiar with ever-rising premiums, deductibles and co-pays.
Prevention and wellness take a back seat to more costly treatments and other interventions.
The high costs of health insurance affect the competitive standing of businesses and even their viability.
Isn’t it time we talk turkey about health and financial security?
AARP Indiana will do just that at an Opinion Leader Forum in South Bend on May 28. The free event runs from 7-9 p.m. in Weikamp Hall on the Indiana University South Bend Campus, 1800 Mishawaka Ave. We’ll even pick up your parking tab in the parking ramp next to Weikamp Hall.
Why now?
During this election year, we’re hearing a lot about “working together” and the need for “change.” That’s why AARP is leading Divided We Fail, an initiative to raise the voices of millions of Americans who are tired of letting Washington gridlock stand in the way of affordable, quality health care and personal financial security.
Divided We Fail doesn’t pretend to have all the answers; but we do know it’s time to find commonsense, practical solutions to urgent problems that affect all Americans.
Why should you come?
AARP Indiana has assembled an expert panel to find common ground about our health care future and to lay out the likely costs and tradeoffs that will accompany both change and the status quo.
Our panel:
Moderator Mike Collins, formerly of WSBT and WNDU television
Dr. Brent Mohr, of the South Bend Clinic and board chairman of the Indiana State Medical Association
Douglas Singh, associate professor at IUSB and co-author of “Delivering Health Care in America: A Systems Approach”
Barbara Quandt, state director, National Federation of Independent Business/Indiana
Don’t expect easy answers. But do expect robust discussion and the opportunity to ask the questions you’ve been wanting to ask about health and health care.
The Opinion Leader Forum is free and no reservations are required. But do bring your questions and an open mind.
We’ll be happy to see you!
