INDIANAPOLIS – AARP Indiana is pleased to announce the appointment of June Lyle as state director. Lyle joined AARP in 2002 as associate state director for public policy, and has served as interim state director since September 2007. Prior to joining AARP, she was an attorney in private practice specializing in consumer, utility, and environmental law.
“June is the complete package,” said Anita Price, AARP Indiana state president. “She’s smart, she’s caring, and she’s committed to strong working relationships with volunteers and community partners. In short, she has all the right qualities to help AARP improve the lives and opportunities of older Hoosiers.”
Lyle takes the helm as AARP Indiana brings renewed emphasis to Divided We Fail, which AARP has launched to raise the voices of millions of Americans who believe that health care and lifetime financial security are the most pressing domestic issues facing our nation.
Commonsense solutions are needed, and everyone—individuals, businesses and government—has a role and a responsibility in ensuring health and financial security for all.
“Hoosiers are deeply concerned about quality, affordable health care and about their families’ financial futures,” Lyle said. “I’m honored to lead our great staff and volunteers as we help Hoosiers find practical answers to these urgent questions.”
As state policy director, Lyle led AARP Indiana’s legislative advocacy efforts, working with staff and volunteers to pass key legislation to improve the lives of Hoosiers 50+. Significant victories included laws on prescription drug assistance, predatory mortgage lending, home and community based health care services, and security freeze/identity theft.
Lyle is board treasurer of the Indiana Coalition for Human Services, serves on the executive committee of the Indiana Utility Rate Payer Trust, and is a member of the board of ShadowApe Theatre Company. She also serves as board secretary of Community Montessori School in Fishers. She holds bachelor’s and law degrees from Indiana University and a master’s degree from the University of Illinois.
Lyle directs a state office staff of six people, who serve the interests of more than 880,000 Hoosier members of AARP.
