Champmobile Travels Across Iowa for RAGBRAI
By: AARP Iowa | Source: AARP.org
What is big and purple and making its way across Iowa during RAGBRAI ‘08? It’s the Champmobile, representing the Divided We Fail initiative trekking across the state to raise awareness about the critical issues of health care and financial security for all Americans.
The Champmobile is an interactive, educational vehicle featuring wireless internet, satellite feeds, speakers and a stage. The name itself honors the Divided We Fail purple mascot, “Champ.” Champ is part donkey, part elephant and represents the bipartisanship (red plus blue makes purple) needed to make substantial changes in health care and lifetime financial security.
The goal is to engage and energize RAGBRAI riders and townspeople in host communities to demand solutions from candidates and elected officials to the real health care and financial security challenges the people of Iowa and rest of America faces every day.
Divided We Fail volunteers and staffers will be engage cyclists and all Iowans by collecting stories and pledge cards from people committed to making positive changes to America’s top domestic issues – health care and long-term financial security.
The Champmobile will stop in the overnight towns of Missouri Valley - July 19, Harlan - July 20, Jefferson - July 21, Ames - July 22, Tama-Toledo - July 23 and North Liberty - July 24. Be on the look out for the 24 ft., purple exhibit rolling through your town. Stop by the exhibit for good times and great give-a-ways.
In addition to having a team on RAGBRAI, Divided We Fail/AARP will also be sponsoring the Main Stage entertainment in North Liberty (at the North Liberty Community Center July 24), featuring Zydeco music from Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band.
