Callers are directed to our intake specialists, who will gather information including name, address, date of birth, marital status, household members, financial information and a general description of the legal problem or question. They will provide this information to the hotline attorneys, members of the District of Columbia Bar, who will return the call as promptly as workload permits.

The hotline attorney will gather further information about the question or problem, and provide advice or assistance. If the problem requires further legal representation, the hotline attorney can refer the client to one of the LCE staff attorneys or other programs depending upon the nature of the problem as well as program limitations on client income and assets.
