Championing the dignity and rights of Washington, D.C.'s elderly by providing free legal services to those in need – empowering, defending and protecting vulnerable seniors.
LCE handles cases for Washington, D.C. residents who are age 60 and older. We also handle Social Security and Supplemental Security Income disability cases for D.C. residents age 55 and older. LCE handles most types of civil (not criminal) legal matters. Where we cannot help directly, we refer clients to someone who can.

Long-Term Care Ombudsman
The D.C. Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is an important part of Legal Counsel for the Elderly. Ombudsmen are advocates for residents of nursing home, assisted living facilities, community residence facilities and residents in their private homes. Ombudsmen work to resolve complaints of residents and to bring about resolution, including changes at the local, state and national levels to improve residents’ quality of care and quality of life. The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) programs, help Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries detect, avoid and prevent health care fraud. In doing so, they not only protect older persons, they also help preserve the integrity of the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Read More
