Volunteer with AARP Tax-Aide
By: State: Connecticut | Source: AARP.org
Every year new volunteers, who have spent their careers dealing with numbers, join the AARP Tax-Aide program to help others who do not feel comfortable preparing their own income taxes and can’t afford professional help.
AARP Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service. It is available to taxpayers with low- and moderate-incomes and gives special attention to people age 60 and older.
The program has grown tremendously since it started in 1968 with four volunteers. In Connecticut, more than 500 AARP Tax-Aide volunteers helped 38,499 people file their taxes in 2008.
These volunteers assist low to middle income taxpayers of all ages, with special attention to those 60 and older, in filing their Federal and Connecticut income taxes correctly and on time.
Volunteer opportunities are available as Counselors and/or Leadership Coordinators. Training in cooperation with the IRS begins in December.
If you are interested in becoming a Tax-Aide volunteer, please send an e-mail to ctvoltaxaide@juno.com. Provide your name, address, and telephone number.
