AARP's Free WorkSearch Program Offers Colorado Jobseekers Resources to Pursue New Opportunities

By 2010 one in three workers will be over the age of 50. To help accommodate this increase, AARP created the WorkSearch program, which provides community-level job and career information to people who are seeking to remain in or re-enter the workforce. The program offers interest and ability inventories, skill assessments and connections to local training and employment opportunities, all at no cost to jobseekers.

WorkSearch is joining with libraries and community colleges in the Denver metro area. The first site is open at 777 Grant St. in Denver. Since the program kicked off in Colorado in early May, volunteers and staff have been overwhelmed by the interest in the program. Ninety interviews were scheduled in July and August alone.

The program is seeking volunteers who are computer savvy and willing to help people 50 and older with job searches. If you are interested, please e-mail Jeremiah Mora, or call (303)764-5986.

You can also contact him if you are looking for an employment opportunity.

Project C.U.R.E. in Colorado Seeks Helping Hands Help Deliver Essential Supplies for Medical Care

In many developing countries doctors can't do surgeries and nurses can't provide important care, simply because they don't have very basic supplies - gloves, needles, syringes, sutures. Project C.U.R.E., the Commission on Urgent Relief and Equipment, collects donated medical supplies and equipment, and delivers them to health care professionals serving the poorest people in developing countries.

Volunteer opportunities include sorting, packaging and shipping supplies from the Centennial warehouse. To volunteer for C.U.R.E., contact Greg Cooke at (303)792-0729 or e-mail.
