Stay warm – With heating costs higher than ever this winter, spring can’t come too soon for Coloradans on fixed incomes. The state’s Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) can help defray the cost of heating bills and is accepting applications through the end of April. Individuals with monthly income up to $1,574 and couples with income up to $2,111 may be eligible. For more information about LEAP, call 1-866-432-8435 toll free. AARP Colorado supported a law enacted in 2007 that gives the state Public Utilities Commission the authority to consider the needs of low-income households when setting utility rates.

Help wanted – If you have time, energy and interest in solving state and national problems, AARP Colorado wants you. Volunteers are needed in all seven of the state's congressional districts before the political party caucuses in February, and will assist in AARP's Divided We Fail campaign. Candidates are being urged to propose specific plans that provide health care and lifelong financial security for all Americans. Volunteers will participate in advocacy or community service. Call 1-866-554-5376 toll free or e-mail coaarp@aarp.org.
