Colorado Hands in Action assists our community members in remaining independent. They are educating people to become neighbors. Colorado Hands in Action is a coalition of volunteers, faith communities and agencies providing in-home volunteer services, caregiver support and heartfelt individual attention. They coordinate free services throughout the Denver-metro area to seniors, the chronically ill, the physically or mentally disabled, and the temporarily disabled. Your volunteer time and donations make all this possible.
Colorado Hands in Action provided 5,600 hours of free assistance to neighbors-in-need during 2006-2007, including two annual community-wide service days involving 500+ volunteers. Colorado Hands in Action also makes a visible impact in the community through education, special events, public relations efforts. Volunteers receive training, background checks and volunteer insurance coverage.
The services our volunteers provide include:
Respite Care—providing the primary caregiver a break.
"Shirley" is a senior living with her elderly mother with dementia. Our caregiver support, cards, and gift baskets make her feel "less alone in all this."
Transportation to and from medical appointments, and worship services.
"Anne" was an active volunteer for years. Then Parkinson's kept her from driving and attending church, until her volunteer, "Bob," lent a helping hand.
Grocery shopping assistance.
"Kay" lives with depression and mobility problems. She receives help getting to the store to stock up on personal-needs items, her prescriptions, and groceries. Without us, she says she'd be in assisted living.
Friendly visiting—decreasing isolation and increasing access to services.
"David" survived wars, now isolation is the challenge. His volunteer, "Paul," takes him out to eat lunch, and visits.
Telephone Reassurance—support for seniors and the chronically ill.
