The AARP Colorado State Office is pleased to invite you to participate in our 2008 Day of Service. This annual event is a reflection of AARP’s deep commitment to and belief in the importance of service to our community and the difference that just one day’s collective effort can make. Nationally the ’08 Day of Service will be in May—here in Colorado we will get a head start by working together on Saturday, April 26. Read on for the details!
In 2008, AARP Colorado will again partner with Rebuilding Together (RT), an organization whose mission is to bring volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners assuring that they live in warmth, safety, and independence. Last year AARP sponsored one RT home project in metro Denver that brought together staff and volunteers to do minor home repairs, safety upgrades and painting. We look forward to providing this volunteer service to another homeowner this year. This one “rebuilding day” makes a world of difference to homeowners and neighborhoods! Our partnership with RT allows us to demonstrate our commitment to building and sustaining livable communities. A livable community is one that has affordable and appropriate housing, supportive community features and services, and mobility options that facilitate personal independence and the participation of residents in civic and social life.
Will you join us on this day and help us to make a difference in our community? Please call me at (303) 764-5986 or e-mail me at jmora@aarp.org for more information on this or other volunteer opportunities—we would love to hear from YOU!
