AARP is excited to announce that we are getting involved in a new project called ServiceNation.  ServiceNation is a coalition of more than 100 service groups, including AARP and United Way of America.

AARP CEO Bill Novelli will be joining the likes of Caroline Kennedy and Alma Powell, wife of former Secretary of State Colin Powell, with the goal of getting more folks involved in giving back to their community.

The ultimate goal of the ServiceNation Summit is to inspire Americans to increase their volunteer commitments with a goal of 100 million citizens working to improve schools, workplaces, faith-based and community institutions by 2020.

California will be well represented as the summit concludes with a keynote address and call to action by our very own Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who earlier this year became the first governor to create a cabinet post dedicated to service and volunteering.

On Sept. 11 in NY, we've invited John McCain and Barack Obama to tell us what they would do. You can suggest questions you'd like the moderator to ask them online.

The next day, AARP will be part of ServiceNation Summit, where hundreds of organizers will come together to learn new strategies and hear from our nations leaders. AARP will blog live from the scene, bringing you interviews with leaders like Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger as well as citizens that are out there making a difference each day.

The ServiceNation Summit is being co-chaired by Caroline Kennedy, Alma Powell (Chair of America’s Promise Alliance), TIME’s Richard Stengel, Vartan Gregorian (President of Carnegie Corporation of New York), and Bill Novelli (CEO of AARP). It is underwritten by a grant from Carnegie Corporation and Presented by TIME, AARP and Target.
