Nursing Home Quality of Care
"Granny Cams"—AARP believes that nursing home residents, or in the case of residents unable to provide consent, their legally recognized decision-makers, should be permitted to utilize video technology for the purpose of surveillance, documentation of care and "virtual visitation."

Fire Alarms/Sprinkler Systems—Tennessee recently enacted this common-sense safety Measure for their nursing homes. Arkansas should follow suit to ensure that nursing home residents are adequately protected against this danger.

Home & Community Based Services
We believe there should be more equity between institutional and home and community based services; we will continue to fight for equitable funding so that true choices are available to those in need.

Assisted Living
We support ending the need for a Permit of Approval (POA) for Assisted Living Facilities. The process now works to protect existing facilities from new competition, thus limiting consumer choice. AARP believes that the more choices consumers have, the better.

Payday Lending
Since the passage of the Check Cashers Act of 1999, payday lending activity in Arkansas has grown out of control. In the mid-1990s, the Arkansas Attorney General sued many check cashers over their payday loan practices, maintaining that the usurious interest rates grossly exceed usury limits established in the Arkansas Constitution.

We support repeal of the Check Cashers Act of 1999 and an anti-broker law to reign in predatory check cashers in Arkansas.
