Dillard Named AARP Arkansas State President
AARP Executive Council Member Moves Up

Mary Dillard, former AARP Arkansas Executive Council Member for Communications, has been appointed, Arkansas State President for the term beginning January 2009. She brings a wealth of respect and experience to the position. "We're so pleased that Mary was able to accept this position," said Maria Reynolds-Diaz, state director of AARP Arkansas. "She is eminently qualified, and her talents are just what we need at this time." Mary will represent Arkansas as its top volunteer at the regional and national levels of AARP.
In her new role, Dillard's duties include, but are not limited to
- Chairing the state Executive Council;
- In partnership with the State Director and the Executive Council, developing the framework for state strategic planning and coordination of AARP activities;
- In partnership with the State Director and in collaboration with other appropriate volunteers and staff, the State President positioning AARP in the state to achieve the AARP vision, mission, and strategic priorities; and
- Serving as the principal AARP volunteer spokesperson in the state, communicating AARP messages statewide.
Mary worked as a nonprofit administrator before starting her own business as a consultant to nonprofit and governmental groups. She has been chosen three times as one of Arkansas Business' Top 100 Women and was one of the founding members of the Women's Foundation of Arkansas. She has served as the President of Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, Ouachita Girl Scout Council, Arkansas Hunger Coalition and many others. Mary and her husband Tom, head of archives at the University of Arkansas, live in Northwest Arkansas.
