For the third consecutive year, Huntsville’s Intuitive Research and Technology Corporation is one AARP’s Best Employers for Workers Over 50. This year Intuitive moved up to its highest spot so far in the rankings at 17 out of 50.
The biennial Best Employers recognition program honors companies and organizations throughout the U.S. that value the 50+ workforce. Intuitive was recognized this year for alternative work arrangements, such as flextime, compressed-work schedules and a formal phased-retirement program; recruiting which targets mature workers; and development opportunities, such as in-house classroom training and online training.
“We are delighted that Intuitive has been selected once again,” said AARP State Director Joan Carter. “This third consecutive recognition demonstrates their continued commitment to a number of progressive employment policies toward older workers.”
More than 200 employers applied for Best Employers honors, the highest total in the nine-year history of the program. Candidates undergo extensive vetting prior to final selections. Key areas of consideration include: recruiting practices; opportunities for training, education and career development; workplace accommodations; alternative work options; employee health and pension benefits; retiree benefits; and age diversity of the workforce.
A separate hospitals and health care Best Employers honor roll was established by AARP for the first time this year. AARP created the separate category in order to acknowledge efforts in the health care field to creatively deal with shortages in qualified workers that have faced the health care industry for years.
Any U.S.-based employer with at least 50 employees is eligible to apply for the Best Employers award. Candidates are vetted to ensure that practices meet the needs of mature workers. Key areas of consideration include: recruiting practices, opportunities for training, education and career development; workplace accommodations; alternative work options, such as flexible scheduling, job sharing, and phased retirement; employee health and retirement benefits and retiree work opportunities
