The AARP Global Aging Program, in association with the British Embassy in the United States, the Employee Benefit Research Institute and the UK Department for Work and Pensions convened policymakers and experts from both sides of the Atlantic for the 2005 US -UK Dialogue on Pensions. The dialogue explored options for addressing issues affecting the current state of pension schemes and savings rates in the US and UK. Among other topics, participants discussed issues related to pension protection, financial education, hybrid pension plans, auto-enrollment, strategies for increasing enrollment in private retirement savings, benefits for employers who offer adequate pension plans, and the retirement income situations affecting women. This gathering was a follow-up to the first US-UK Dialogue on Pensions held in June 2004 in Windsor, UK. The first meeting brought together leaders from both countries for discussions on pension protection, and the growing shift from defined benefit to defined contribution schemes.
