Nigel Waterson: MP Shadow Minister for Pensions and Conservative Spokesman for Older People
Nigel is a Solicitor and built up a successful practice in maritime law. He served for a time as a local councillor and is a former Chairman of the Bow Group. Nigel was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Minister for Health in 1995. The following year he was made Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister. He was appointed as Opposition Whip in June 1997. In February 1999, Nigel was appointed Shadow Minister for Local Government and Housing. From September 2001 to July 2002 he served as Shadow Minister for Trade and Industry. Nigel has recently been re-elected as Co-Chairman of the All Party Group for Older People, a post he has held for several years. He is a member of a number of other All Party Groups at Westminster, including the Friends of Cyprus. Nigel is a member of the Work and Pensions Select Committee. Nigel is Patron of a number of local charities, including the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the LINK Centre for Deafened People in Eastbourne and the Betts Memorial Heart Foundation. He is also Patron of the Eastbourne Angling Association and President of the Eastbourne Constitutional Club. Nigel was recently appointed Honorary Vice President of Age Concern Eastbourne. |
