BLCP Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer projects on the horizon include:
Neighborhood Pedestrian Evaluations: Teams of volunteers document condition of sidewalks, crossings, and other features on walking routes throughout Burlington using survey materials provided by AARP.
Home modification: Light carpentry or "handyperson" part of your skill set? Put these skills to use through a program to help low income homeowners make basic physical changes (adding railings, ramps, wider doors, bathroom grab bars, motion lights) so they may live safely and comfortably in their current homes as they age
Neighbor connection through Front Porch Forum: Help older residents of Burlington sign up and use this web-based neighborhood communication service available throughout the city. The free Front Porch Forum service allows participants to learn about yard sales, events, and community needs as well as share ideas with their neighbors. There are now 38 active neighborhood forums in Burlington.
Advocacy for livable community improvements: Help bring BLCP issues to the attention of our legislators, city councilors and voters with training and support provided by AARP Vermont and other community-based groups.
