They Want to Know: The Opinions of AARP Members in West Virginia About Data Breach Notification Legislation

Most of the AARP members in West Virginia who completed this September-October 2007 AARP survey think data breach notification legislation is important, they support it, and they would be more likely to vote for a candidate that supported such legislation. The survey tapped the opinions of 1,019 West Virginia AARP members age 50+.

  • Over nine in ten respondents said it is important to make businesses, government, health care providers, and other organizations notify them if there has been a breach in the security of their personal data.
  • Nine in ten respondents indicated they support the West Virginia state legislature enacting data breach notification legislation. Less than one percent said they oppose such legislation.
  • Seven in ten respondents said they would be more likely to vote for a candidate who supports data breach notification legislation.
