As fiscal and programmatic responsibility for health care continues to shift away from the federal government, states have been adopting new roles and adapting traditional ones in response to this changing environment.
Based on the Public Policy Institute's ninth annual review of health and health care in the United States, the report provides detailed information about the vast differences among states in nearly 100 key health dimensions, including health status, use of health services, insurance coverage, managed care, health financing and expenditures, health resources, and state policies. It is intended to stimulate public discussion and to suggest opportunities for states to learn from each other about improving their health care systems.
