Research Report
Joanne Binette, M.P.A., AARP Knowledge Management
December 2004
AARP MEMBER OPINION RESEARCH: Unlike 39 other states, Mississippi has no state pharmaceutical assistance program for its citizens, other than those eligible for Medicaid benefits. AARP members in Mississippi are thus concerned about being able to afford the cost of prescription drugs.
Of 800 members surveyed by phone in November 2004...
- 87 percent say it is important for Mississippi to create a
centralized source where residents can get information about
prescription drugs
- 92 percent support Mississippi publicizing prescription drug
prices in a centralized source so consumers can comparison
shop
- 93 percent say it is important for consumers to have access to information comparing the safety and effectiveness of prescription drugs
Interviews were conducted between November 9 and November 23, 2004 as part of a larger telephone survey of Mississippi AARP members. The report was prepared by Joanne Binette of AARP Knowledge Management who may be contacted at 202-434-6303 for further information. (17 pages)
