AARP in Your State: TexasAARP MEMBER OPINION RESEARCH: Texas members of AARP believe it is important to increase current levels of funding for health and long-term care services. They are supportive of finding new ways to generate money for health and long-term care services, specifically by increasing taxes on cigarettes, other tobacco products, and alcohol; and closing loopholes and exemptions.
- Texas members also support strengthening the enforcement of quality standards for nursing homes and improving the enforcement of standards to assure the protection of nursing home residents from abuse and neglect.
- Texas members are experiencing increases in their auto and homeowner's insurance premiums while their policy coverage remains the same. More than six in ten report experiencing increases in their homeowner's and auto insurance premiums in the past year. More than eight in ten members say their auto insurance coverage has remained the same and more than half say their homeowner's insurance coverage has not changed in the past year. In general, Texas members have an unfavorable opinion toward the insurance industry.
