Long-term care encompasses a broad range of services needed by persons of all ages with physical or mental impairments who cannot function independently without this assistance. Financing for long-term care services comes from public funds, most especially the Medicaid program, and from out-of-pocket spending by individuals and families. This fact sheet describes long-term care services, costs, and financing. (2 pages)
