Florida Nursing Homes: An AARP Survey

Research Report

March 2001

More than 80% of AARP members in Florida want AARP to advocate for new state laws to improve the quality of nursing homes in Florida.

Specifically, AARP members interviewed for this survey voiced support for

  • strengthening enforcement of standards (96%), and
  • maintaining the right of nursing home residents and their families to take nursing homes to court for mistreating, abusing, injuring or neglecting residents (94%).

Moreover, 75% of those surveyed are more likely to vote for state candidates who support legislation to improve the quality of nursing home care and protect residents' rights.

SunCoast Analysis conducted the telephone survey of 802 Florida members between March 5 and March 7, 2001. The report was written by Millie DePallo of SunCoast Analysis and Rachelle Cummins of AARP Knowledge Management. (14 pages)
