Divided We Fail

Many Americans are fearful about their economic and health security as they grow older. There is serious concern, too, about what sort of future their children and grandchildren will have. Among some, there is a sense that the American dream may be eroding along with individual financial and health security. Will their children and grandchildren’s generations grow up to be the first to experience a lower standard of living than their parents?

Seeking broad-based, bi-partisan solutions to these challenges, AARP launched the Divided We Fail campaign in early 2007 to raise the voices of Americans who believe that health and long-term financial security are the most pressing issues facing the nation here at home. In concert with the Business Roundtable and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), organizations which often hold views different from each other and AARP, the Divided We Fail (DWF) campaign aims to...

  • activate and engage Americans to become more knowledgeable about the issues, demand action from leaders in the public and private sector, and change their own behaviors to secure a stronger future
  • reshape attitudes among policy makers and opinion elites, seed the marketplace of ideas to develop and push forward good answers to the challenges facing the United States
