Global Report on Aging – Created to provide a balanced voice on aging issues, this newsletter, published three times a year, brings together the thoughts of policymakers and opinion leaders from around the world.
Interactive World Map – Our world map serves as a "one-stop" international clearing house of the most relevant and timely information on aging populations. This site is updated regularly with newly published regional and country specific research, reports, and resources.
Aging Advances – A quarterly updated brochure that highlights international "best practices" that enrich the quality of life for today's aging population. For instance, did you know that researchers in Japan have designed a new "assisted care bath" that gently bathes an older person without the chills, slips or caregiver back pain of traditional bathing? Or have you heard about the new Austrian grocery store featuring wide aisles, large price tags and non-glare lighting designed for shoppers age 50+?

Events
Gro Brundtland – A rare opportunity to hear from one of the world's leading health experts, the former Director-General of the World Health Organization and Prime Minister of Norway, Gro Brundtland. Prime Minister Brundtland will visit AARP for a breakfast briefing on April 28, 2004, and will receive AARP's 2004 Andrus Award later in the day.
American Competitiveness and the Older Worker – The issue of outsourcing has become particularly heated, with many politicians, news commentators and others debating the pros and cons of this increasing and highly visible trend in today's workplace. But outsourcing is not a binary debate – instead it is a topic that has implications on a wide range of issues, including productivity, tax credits and incentives, and the escalating cost of fringe benefits. Catherine Mann of the Institute for International Economics, Bruce Mehlman of the Computer Systems Policy Project and the AFL-CIO's Thea Lea will visit AARP on May 3 to discuss how outsourcing is impacting older workers.
Boomers Approaching Retirement: Aspirations and Realities – AARP and Harvard University's Generations Policy Initiative will host a symposium at the National Press Club (Washington DC) on May 21. This morning symposium will examine boomers' attitudes toward retirement, their financial readiness, and whether global labor forces can allow this segment of the population to retire.
Life@50+ Member Event – AARP's Global Aging Program will be present in a big way at AARP's National Event, October 14-16, 2004 in Las Vegas. Our sessions will examine the reimportation of prescription drugs, retiring in Mexico, the Islamic faith, and global aging learning resources on the Internet.
Reinventing Retirement – AARP will gather top international policymakers and the leading thinkers in global aging in London this November to explore the most pressing questions about retirement in societies that are living longer. Global concerns such as the shrinking workforce, low immigration, and demands on public and occupational pension schemes, will be discussed in the context of new personal, professional and public definitions of retirement.
