This and Related Reports

The AARP New York State Office commissioned this telephone survey of registered voters who live in Albany County, New York, and who are age 50 and older.

Key findings revealed:

  • If they needed long-term care, most registered voters 50+ in Albany County prefer to receive that care at home.
  • One in three respondents have personally needed or had a family member who needed long-term care in the last 5 years.
  • Three in four respondents say it is extremely or very important to have a full range of options for long-term care available to them; and 81% say it is extremely or very important to have these options in their community or nearby.

The survey was conducted on October 6, 2009, and 500 interviews were completed.  A sample was drawn from a Voter Registration List of registered voters in Albany County, New York, on April 2009.  Survey responses were weighted to reflect the actual distribution of age and gender for the registered voter population 50+ in Albany County as released by the Albany County Election Department on April 2009.  For more information, contact Terri Guengerich at 202-434-6306.
