AARP Kentucky Executive Council
AARP Kentucky's Executive Council is the decision-making body that focuses on the state's "big picture" and our strategic direction. The members include the State Director, State President and these Executive Team members with specialized expertise:
Advocacy: Laurel True
True is the Chair for the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky. He was on the executive staff of two governors, Director of State Planning, Cabinet Secretary for Human Resources, and Deputy Superintendent of the State Department of Education. He is a former member of AARP's National Legislative Committee and previously served as AARP Kentucky's Legislative Committee Chair and VOTE State Coordinator. He has a Master's Degree in Medical Care Finance and Management from the University of Michigan. True has been an AARP volunteer since 1990 and was honored with the coveted Andrus Award for Community Service in 2004.
Community Service: Fred Smith
Smith recently retired as Adjutant General for Fort Knox. He is the past Governor of Optimist International for Kentucky and West Virginia, District Commissioner for Boy Scouts of America, Chair of Communicare comprehensive care center and Chair of the Hardin County branch of the American Cancer Society. Smith is currently the Chair of the Elizabethtown Planning Commission. He has a BBA from the University of Kentucky and an MBA in Aviation from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Smith has been an AARP volunteer for 10 years.
Long-Term Care: Linda Kuder
Dr. Linda Kuder from Georgetown, Kentucky is a 30-year veteran in the field of Aging. During her career, Dr. Kuder has held various positions related to education and outreach activities with a focus on Health and Long Term Care at a Community College, a Mental Health Center and two Health Science Centers. She holds a Masters degree in Adult Education from the University of Tennessee and a PhD in Public Administration from the University of Kentucky. Since retirement from UK, Dr. Kuder has continued to pursue her commitment to improving the quality of life for the frail elderly with contributions to the ARMS (Advocates for Reforming Medicaid Services) coalition and the Kentucky Association of Gerontology.
