Two AARP Arizona Chapters are Honored for 25 Years of Service

AARP Chapters in Lake Havasu City and Sierra Vista, AZ, recently celebrated their 25th anniversary with recognition luncheons that honored the chapters' longevity and work in their community.
"It's great to have two vibrant chapters so active and engaged in various functions in their areas," said Curtis Cook, AARP Arizona Associate State Director for Community Operations. "They are a testament to what AARP chapters mean to our organization."
During the recognition luncheon in Lake Havasu City, John Sloan, Chairman of the Arizona AARP Community Service Network, presented a plaque to Chapter President Edward M. Carey on behalf of the AARP Arizona State Office.
In Sierra Vista, Chapter President Bill Denniss was presented with a recognition plaque by Tucson volunteer and AARP Arizona Community Development Specialist Lesley Wimberly.
"Chapters 3114 in Lake Havasu City and 3123 in Sierra Vista were established in 1978," said Cook. "Today, each is still thriving with Sierra Vista boasting 118 members and Lake Havasu with 40."
In addition to the 25-year anniversaries celebrated by the chapters, AARP Arizona recently saw a new chapter formed in the Sunflower area of Tucson, which currently boasts about 40 members.
"Our new chapter members in Tucson are really excited about the formation of their new chapter and are already involved in ways to service their community," said Cook. "AARP chapters can be leaders at their local levels, helping to promote the well-being of people in their neighborhoods through community service, educational programs and cooperative endeavors with other groups."
Currently, AARP has 17 chapters in Arizona. Nationwide, AARP has about 4000 chapters.
