AARP Arkansas' Executive Council member for Community Service just got a promotion. Billie Ann Myers of Jacksonville has been named State President for 2005-2007.

Myers is a familiar name and face, not only within AARP Arkansas, but all over the state. She was director of the Arkansas Division of Volunteerism and says "Because my work with state government was statewide, I know the state and its demographic makeup and have worked in partnership with many community organizations as well as with local, state and national government agencies and businesses."

Myers adds that she often finds herself "leading or facilitating meetings where diverse groups of people are engaged in serious discussions requiring outcomes that are far reaching and critical."

As she steps into the multifaceted job of AARP State President, her duties will include among other things, chairing the Executive Council, serving as spokesperson for AARP, building networks and community partnerships with other leaders and organizations, and working in partnership with the State Director.

"I believe the priorities of this organization will change the face of aging through its community service, advocacy and education," Myers said. "And I feel that some of my gifts can help move Arkansas AARP initiatives forward."
