Survey of AARP Members in Mississippi on Consumer Issues and Long-Term Care

AARP Member Opinion Research

Issues surrounding their financial security, prescription drugs, and staying in their own homes as they age are among the top concerns of AARP members in Mississippi. Most of those surveyed...

  • are extremely concerned about making their pension benefits or retirement savings safe and secure, and having access to affordable prescription drugs

  • are concerned that telemarketers, pharmaceutical companies, and home repair contractors may be misleading or taking advantage of them, while a third say they have been swindled in the past

  • say that improving the quality of long-term care in Mississippi should be a top priority for AARP

  • want to stay in their own homes as they age, and strongly support expanding home and community-based programs for seniors

This mail survey of 946 Mississippi members was conducted from October through December, 2003. The report was prepared by Erica Dinger of AARP Knowledge Management who may be contacted at 202/434-6176. (27 pages)
