Can a Company Lay Off Older Workers for Taking Medical Leave?

WellPoint Inc. settles age discrimination suit

After three years of active litigation, the large health insurer WellPoint Inc. settled an age discrimination suit by establishing a $2.6 million fund for 150 older workers who had lost their jobs during the years 2005 to 2008. WellPoint did not admit liability in the case, and the three people who filed the original lawsuit withdrew their claims as part of the settlement. … Back to Article
