Chicanos Por La Causa

Cesar Chavez, a Mexican-American labor leader, preached the theory that non-violent tactics such as strikes, marches and boycotts could give power to the powerless. While American farm workers began making strides under this model, others brought the struggle to the cities.
In South Central Phoenix, Hispanic residents once faced harsh adversity as unemployment rates were high and police brutality was widespread. In response to this perceived flawed system, Chicanos Por La Causa was formed to change their condition.
Pete Garcia is the former director of Chicanos Por La Causa. My Generation sat down with this unwavering leader to discuss how he broke down barriers and won the fight for his community.
