Voters 50+ and the 2014 Election

Across party lines, voters 50 and older worry that a secure future will be out of reach. They want candidates to focus on improving their financial security, as they think their incomes have not kept up with their cost of living—especially health costs, taxes and retirement security. The overwhelming majority of 50-plus voters want to live independently as they age, and they see this as a critical election issue. Find out other surprising things 50-plus voters had to say about the 2014 elections.

Questions Candidates Should Answer

Too little is said by candidates about how to strengthen the financial security of all Americans. We must press our congressional candidates to openly express their views about how Americans can strengthen their financial future. And to do this, AARP needs your help.  Please be sure to ask the candidates who want to represent you the following questions.

Social Security

Social Security, AARP Voter Guide

For more than 50 years, AARP has been fighting to protect Americans’ hard-earned Social Security benefits. We're working to ensure that Washington holds a separate, responsible debate about the future of Social Security that strengthens the system for future generations, instead of making shortsighted cuts as part of a budget deal.

Prescription Medicine, AARP Voter Guide

For nearly 50 years, AARP has been fighting to protect Medicare for seniors and future generations.  As Washington debates the program’s future, AARP will urge Congress to strengthen Medicare by improving coordination of care; reducing drug costs and cutting out unnecessary tests and paperwork, waste and fraud.

Financial Security

Today, a secure retirement is out of reach for millions of Americans.  AARP is working to ensure you have the financial security you need to take charge of your future and live independently as you age.

Age Discrimination

Age discrimination, AARP Voter Guide

Age discrimination in employment is a serious problem, harming hard-working individuals and their families, and stealing their hopes for the future.  AARP is fighting to ensure every American worker is treated fairly on the job, regardless of age.

Caregiving, AARP Voter Guide

AARP is fighting to help seniors live independently and for the family caregivers who make it possible for them to stay in their homes.
