2002 AARP Colorado Member Opinion Survey

AARP Member Opinion Research

Financial concerns, health and long-term care emerge as leading issues in this mail survey of 1,112 AARP members in Colorado who report being extremely concerned about the safety and security of pensions and retirement benefits (70%), finding affordable health insurance (64%), and having access to affordable prescription drugs (62%).

Finding affordable, quality health care and having access to affordable prescription drugs are their top legislative priorities.

Nearly half have spent $50 or more out-of-pocket for prescription drugs in the past 12 months, and 81 percent support a prescription drug plan for low-income elderly.

If they were to need long-term care, 62 percent say it is very important for them to be able to remain in their own homes as long as possible.

The survey was conducted from May through July 2002. The report was prepared by Rachelle Cummins of AARP Knowledge Management, who may be contacted for further information at 202/434-6297. (48 pages)
