Your voice matters. Your vote matters. AARP believes everyone should have the facts to make an informed decision when you head to the polls this November. Once again AARP South Dakota, along with the South Dakota Newspaper Association is sponsoring election coverage and candidate debates on South Dakota Public Broadcasting.

“AARP believes it is critically important for voters to be informed, and know where the candidates stand on the issues that matter to them,” said Sarah Jennings, state director for AARP South Dakota. “We’re pleased to once again support South Dakota Public Broadcasting as they provide this valuable public service in bringing candidate debates to voters in South Dakota.”

Candidates vying for South Dakota’s lone seat in the United States House of Representatives, Kristi Noem and Matt Varilek will face off in a televised debate set to air on South Dakota Public Broadcasting Thursday, October 18 at 8 pm CT/7 pm MT on South Dakota Public Broadcasting. A re-broadcast of the debate will also air on SDPB2 and South Dakota Public Radio. Web audience can also watch via the web at www.sdpb.org.

South Dakota Public Broadcasting will also air a debate with candidates for the South Dakota Public Utilities commission, Thursday October 25 at 8pm CT/7 PM MT.

“We encourage our members to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the issues, the candidates and where they stand,” said Jennings. “It’s a true privilege to be a participant in our political process, but it’s equally important to make an informed and educated decision on Election Day.”

In addition to watching the debates and election coverage on South Dakota Public Broadcasting, voters can learn more about where the candidate’s stand on key AARP issues through our online voter guides.
