It’s a great way to have fun and help struggling Tennesseans. The need is fierce in Tennessee, where one in five people has trouble putting food on the table. Our state ranks16th in food insecurity, according to the USDA, and some 22.8 percent of residents reported that they didn’t have enough money to buy food last year.
Many of them are older Tennesseans on fixed incomes, forced to make choices between food and medicine or paying their utilities every day.
That’s why AARP and the AARP Foundation teamed with Jeff Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports on the Drive to End Hunger to help nearly nine million older Americans who face the threat of hunger.
In Tennessee, we’re working with Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee and other food banks across the state to help meet the growing need.
Since the food banks can turn every $1 into at least 4 meals, each $24 donation could help provide nearly 100 meals! Since Drive to End Hunger was launched in 2011, more than 12 million meals have been donated to local food banks.
So, we encourage you to buy that ticket today and stop by the Drive to End Hunger trailer at Bristol Motor Speedway on race weekend to check out all the fun #24 gear, maybe get some swag and learn more about how YOU can help stop hunger in its tracks.
