Stories of the Gay Rights Movement

'Voices of an Era' chronicles more than 70 years of the struggle

Through the personal stories of four Americans, "Voices of an Era" chronicles more than 70 years of the struggle for gay rights. A 90-year-old Navy veteran recounts his "undesirable discharge" during World War II. A New Yorker describes the six nights of rioting in 1969 that began at the Stonewall Inn. An HIV survivor remembers the horror of his diagnosis in the early 1980s. And a soldier, battling terminal cancer,  argues why her same-sex spouse should receive full veterans and Social Security benefits.

Editor's Note: Chief Warrant Officer Charlie Morgan, who is seen in the video, died on Feb. 10, 2013.
