Consumer Protection Forums Co-sponsored by AARP and 4 State Agencies Continue Across the State

AARP Arkansas is partnering with the Office of the Arkansas Attorney General; the Arkansas Securities Department; the Arkansas Insurance Department; and the Arkansas Department of Human Services – Division of Aging and Adult Services to bring a series of consumer protection forums to Arkansans.

All forums are free of charge. The first two forums have already been held, in Hot Springs and Mena. Forums for which participants can still register are:

  • Thursday, May 10: Inn of the Ozarks, 207 W. Van Buren, Eureka Springs
  • Thursday, May 10: Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce, 123 W. Mountain St., Fayetteville
  • Tuesday, June 12: Fairfield Bay Baptist Church, 481 Dave Creek Parkway, Fairfield Bay
  • Wednesday, June 13: Highland Elks Lodge, 15 Elks Dr., Cherokee Village
  • Wednesday, August 1: Grand Prairie Center, Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas, 2807 Highway 165 South, Stuttgart

All forums will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at noon, followed by a complimentary lunch. The exception is the Fayetteville forum, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. and conclude at 7:30 p.m.

The forums in Eureka Springs, Fairfield Bay, Cherokee Village and Stuttgart will feature presentations on:

  • Medicare Fraud Prevention – What You Can Do: Arkansas Department of Human Services, Division of Aging & Adult Services, Senior Medicare Patrol
  • Most Popular Frauds: Office of the Arkansas Attorney General
  • Legal Planning: Office of the Attorney General
  • Securities Fraud: Arkansas Securities Department
  • Understanding the Mysteries of Medicare: Arkansas Insurance Department, Senior Health Insurance Information Program)
  • Health Insurance Changes: Arkansas Insurance Department, Consumer Assistance Program

The Fayetteville forum presentations will feature:

  • Preparing for Retirement: AARP Arkansas
  • Most Popular Frauds: Office of the Attorney General
  • Legal Planning: Office of the Attorney General
  • Securities Fraud: Arkansas Securities Department
  • Health Insurance Changes: Arkansas Insurance Department, Consumer Assistance Program

Questions will be taken from the audience. There will be a 15-minute break during the forum for participants to visit exhibits from the four state agencies and AARP. A complimentary lunch also will be served.

In 2011, AARP Arkansas in partnership with the four state agencies hosted consumer forums in Blytheville, Springdale, Clinton, and De Queen.
