You’ve Earned a Say!

Did you know that in Connecticut, nearly 17% of Social Security recipients rely on their monthly checks for 90% or more of their income? And that Connecticut’s more than 562,000 Medicare recipients pay on average about $6,000 annually in out-of-pocket health care costs?

You’ve been paying into Social Security and Medicare your whole working life and AARP believes “You’ve Earned a Say” in the debate about the future of these programs. That’s why on March 19, we launched “You’ve Earned a Say”, a national conversation to take the debate about the future of Medicare and Social Security out from behind closed doors in Washington, D.C. and into the homes of everyday Americans, like you.

Here in Connecticut, we kicked off the initiative with a Listening Session in the Old Judiciary Room of the State Capitol in Hartford where more than 100 Connecticut residents made their voices heard about Social Security and Medicare.

Throughout the year, we’ll be hosting listening sessions and forums in communities around the state, and seeking feedback through surveys and questionnaires, and via social media. Most importantly, we’ll be providing straightforward information about all of the proposals that are on the table – both the pros and the cons – so that you can make up your own mind based on facts, not political jargon and spin.

AARP is working to make your voice heard so we can protect today’s seniors and keep Medicare and Social Security strong for your children and grandchildren.

Make Your Voice Heard

We urge you to make your voice heard on the future of Medicare and Social Security.
