Be an Advocate

As legislatures convene in Oklahoma and South Dakota, AARP is inviting its members to get involved as legislative advocates.

In Oklahoma, AARP is offering training for new volunteers before its annual legislative breakfast in March. Among the breakfast guests will be volunteers who in 2011 successfully advocated for passage of a bill to strengthen oversight of long-term care administrators. In South Dakota, AARP Lobby Day is scheduled for Jan. 31, giving volunteers a chance to meet with legislators a few weeks after the session begins. To learn more about the event and South Dakota issues, go to aarp.org/sd.
