In Response to RE: New Here by notseventy.
I care for my husband who has MS and has very limited mobility. I understand your feelings of being trapped, wanting to do things, travel.....
All I can suggest is hire caregivers to come in and care for him and take a respite vacation for yourself. No paying job in the world is 24/7, 365 days a year. Everyone gets days off and vacations, and caregivers should be no different. You should get at LEAST one uninterrupted week a year and some overnight breaks at other times. Your local Aging and Long Term Care organization can provide you with information on respite caregivers.
Your husband may not like that you do this, but for your own health, you must. Explain to him that you need a break or you will get sick and then what? If you end up in the hospital, he may end up in the care of a facility or people he didn't chose.
You will be surprised how allowing yourself these breaks will improve your outlook and keep you going. Don't think of it as being selfish - it's not! You deserve a break and to have/do/make time for yourself.
