Hi, I haven't been on line in a while. Decided to check in today. My mom 85 just came out of the hospital from having congestive heartfailure. She and my 91 year old dad live alone. I live about 30 mins from them. I am almost 68. I don't know if any of you have experience with this, but I am trying to get respite help, homemaker help for my mom from the VA. Home health says medicare won't pay for it. My dad has 80% war time disability. I have put in a call to his doctor and the social worker at the VA hospital.
My other issue is my dad has deminitia and other health issues. He is very hard of hearing and refuses to wear a hearing aid. He turns the TV up so loud that you can go in the next room, close the door, put another tv on the same station, mute it and still hear everything being said. Dad just will not listen to reason.
We can't put him in the VA nursing home, because it would kill him. His only reason for living is my mom. When she was in the hospital stayed with us and seemed like a lost child. So, please don't suggest a nursing home. I know he should be in one, but he would die in no time at all, just from a broken heart.
