My 86 year-old mother has just decided that she is ready to move into an assisted living facility. While I am relieved to know she is ready to take the next step, I have no idea how we get started. I understand a social worker needs to be involved somehow. I have no idea what financial criteria are (she has no savings, just a pension and Social Security). Is there a website, or something that has guidelines for this process?
My parents, 90 and 88, are close to going into independent living. A strange term and not the same as assisted living. I have seen 5 facilities so far. Does AARP or any organization rate such places?
Many residences do not require a big financial committment, but at their ages, moving is very upsetting for my parents. So, to know how some objective organization rates facilities would be very helpful.
