I hear you, Agingdiscoqueen. I went back to your profile and thoroughly "got" your journal of April 7, 2008, found here: http://www.aarp.org/community/Agingdiscoqueen/journals Heck, you wrote that 2 years ago. And it sounds like you're still a caregiver.
I'm glad you've set your limit, and i know you know that you can set more limits. If they have assets, why not hire a lawn service, or a house cleaning service, and if they balk at the expense, you can say your time is valuable, too. Tough love. Tough conversations to have. But its not like you don't have plenty to do. Did you know that the average caregiver is a woman in her late 40s who's been caring for her mother something like 20 hours a week for several years? And has a job outside the home? Sounds like you.
I appreciate your comments and will add their wisdom to the list.
Wow Jane, I guess it has been 2 years since I posted that journal entry. Yes, I'm still taking care of my parents. They have a lawn service and a cleaning crew that comes in. Now if my sister and I could just hire someone to come in and take over the emotional drain.
